Nas regiões sul e sudeste do país, três índios se elegeram nas eleições do dia 15. No município paulista de Avaí, Mário de Camilo (PMDB) foi o candidato mais votado. Dois índios gaúchos concorreram pelo PFL e também se elegeram vereadores: Antonio Sales e Moacir Doble. Há vinte e dois mil índios Kaingang, Guarani, Xokleng e Terena no sul e sudeste do Brasil.
