São baixas as chances de eleição dos sete candidatos índios que tentam ocupar um lugar nas assembleias legislativas de alguns estados brasileiros. O índio Marcos Terena, coordenador do Comitê Intertribal, órgão vinculado à ONU, afirmou que boa parte das aldeias indígenas nesses estados está submetida à política dos sacolões, dificultando, dessa forma, a eleição dos candidatos índios.
