Professores indígenas de diversos grupos do país concluíram no ano de 2002 onze livros didáticos, que serão publicados pelo Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento da Educação (FNDE/MEC) e distribuídos em escolas. Além de patrocinar livros e investir na formação de professores, o MEC desenvolveu o Referencial Curricular Nacional para as Escolas Indígenas.
