De acordo com o presidente da Funai, Ismarth de Oliveira, até junho do próximo ano a Fundação sofrerá diversas modificações no sentido de transformar o órgão em uma instituição menos burocrática e que garanta maior assistência aos povos indígenas. Serão extintas as administrações regionais e as superintendências estaduais, resultando em maior verba para melhorias nas terras indígenas.
