De acordo com o levantamento do ISA, os Araweté são um povo tupi-guarani de caçadores e coletores da floresta de terra firme, que se deslocou há cerca de quarenta anos das cabeceiras do rio Bacajá, em direção ao rio Xingu, no sudeste paraense.
