Os Guarani Mbya que estão acampados em São Miguel das Missões (RS) viviam no município de Santa Rosa (RS). Na redução missionária, com barro, taquara e palha, ergueram habitações. Entre dezembro de 1994 e janeiro de 1995, chegaram os 16 primeiros Guarani, que consideram São Miguel uma "terra de índio".
