O índio Kaingang Pedro Kresó proferiu a aula inaugural da Escola Indígena Cacique Vanhkrê, na reserva Xapecó. A escola é a única no país que funciona dentro de uma aldeia e destinada especificamente à educação de primeiro e segundo graus para índios. Ao todo estão matriculados 460 alunos.
